The Limbe Botanical and Zoological Gardens (LBZG) are internationally recognised as one of the most active gardens in tropical West and Central Africa. It serves as a natural gateway to the Mount Cameroon region, one of the world's biodiversity hotspots.
Situated in the picturesque coastal town of Limbe at the foot of the highest peak in West and Central Africa, The Limbe Botanical and Zoological Gardens (LBZG) combines a location in the heart of one of the world's outstanding areas of biodiversity with easy access to an international airport in nearby Douala.
With a distinguished and colourful history dating back to 1892, when it was established by German colonial horticulturalists as an acclimatization centre for tropical economic and medicinal plants, LBZG has established itself as one of the most active Gardens and most important centres for biodiversity conservation and research in sub-Saharan Africa.
LBZG's work combines research and monitoring with education and training to conserve biodiversity and improve local livelihoods. It offers facilities and services to the national and international research and conservation communities in support of biodiversity conservation in the Mount Cameroon region and beyond. These include a GIS Lab, an internationally recognised herbarium, wildlife centre, a library, databases, conference halls and accommodation facilities.
