Agriculture is a major threat to the biodiversity of the Mount Cameroon region. Over 300,000 inhabitants of the forest regions are involved in plantation agriculture and subsistence farming. They practice conventional agriculture.
Conventional agriculture mainly characterised by straw burning, intensive tillage and external inputs, has contributed to soil degradation through loss of organic matter and soil erosion. This has led to negative effects on global climate, biodiversity, wildlife, soil, water and air qualities that in turn affect food security and livelihoods of people throughout the region.
