The Limbe River from which the town derives its name, provides a freshwaters ecosystem as it transcends The Gardens from the NW to the SE through its volcanic rocky bed producing small rapids along its course to the Atlantic Ocean.
It is at the estuary of this river that the first phyto-laboratory was built by the Germans which is now serves as one of the best hotels in Limbe.
