Main Achievements
In 1999 CIFOR (Centre for International Forestry Research) funded a study on the state of knowledge on Gnetum sp, Prunus africana and Tabernanthe iboga. The same year, research was carried out in collaboration with the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) to study the 'Production - to - consumption' (PSC) of the rattan sector in Cameroon. The work aimed to identify development intervention for the improvement of livelihoods in the area and for a sustainable rattan industry in Cameroon.
Between 1998 and 2001, the Environmental Research Programme (ERP) funded by University of Wales, Bangor was conducted. The programme involved the development of tools and improved methods of identification, assessment and evaluation of biodiversity in tropical mountain environment. In collaboration with MINEF, the work was carried out in selected villages in the Mount Cameroon region and involved complete participation with communities in the region.
DFID funded work included the Forestry Research Programme (FRP), managed by the University of Oxford. This involved the development of guidelines for the production of field identification manuals. Work was carried out with villages in the Mount Cameroon region to evaluate guide-lets prepared from the field collection of a variety of Cola sp.
