This collection has several Cycads, believed to been in existence since the age of the Dinosaurs Era. The outstanding plant in this collection is Encephalatus bateri. Other species include the Browenia sp. and the Frangipani (Plumeria rubia) cultivars. The Native Orchid Collection is harboured in one of the Gardens' oldest buildings, The German Green House (1890) which now serves as the orchid house.
Most of the native orchids are tree top orchids that are epiphytic in nature. Only very few are ground orchids. The orchids are found everywhere on treetops within the Gardens. However, some have been collected and put in the old German Green House for display and preservation. The common orchids of the collection fall in the Bulbophylum group.
