Over-exploitation of timber is a big problem in Cameroon where timber species are sold for up to FCFA40,000 per cubic metre.
There are many timber species in Cameroon: ebony, iron wood, mahogany, African walnut, teak, elon, bete and padouk. Many species, such as ebony (Diospyros zenkeri), are now threatened.
Planted in 1999 to raise awareness about the timber species and their important role played in Cameroon, this paved walk bisects the avenue of timber trees in the Central field of The Gardens.
